Hello Class 2!
It was lovely to see your happy faces last week, we hope you had a brilliant time back in school. It has also been lovely to see the Pinocchio work you have submitted - fantastic stories, facts about Blue Whales and your special star wishes. Well done to all of you!
This week our focus will be 'Nursery Rhymes'.
In LLC, you will be practising reading the rhymes aloud to improve your reading fluency, adding extra detail to traditional rhymes to turn them into a story and even creating your very own rhyme!
In Maths, you will be focusing on multiplication and division, using a multiplication square. You will also be a fun card game with your family and creating a counting rhyme to help yourself and others learn the 5 and 4 times tables.
In Technology, we would like you to get creative and either build a virtual farm for Old Macdonald using Minecraft or creating an animation using Hub/ Purple Mash.
In Expressive Arts, you will be illustrating your favourite nursery rhyme and also creating your very own.
In Humanities, you shall be reading a PowerPoint about the origins of some traditional rhymes and then comparing vintage illustrations with the more modern ones of today.
Finally, in Health & Wellbeing, you will be learning about how to be safe with medicine and also completing a fun video workout with Mrs Mullett and Jude.
Thank you for all your support throughout the year and especially during the past few months. We very much appreciate the hard work which has been done at home. Well done everyone!
In order to give pupils the opportunity to undertake any work that they haven’t already completed over the past number of months and give them the opportunity to choose from the activities on the ‘Additional Resources’ page, work will not be planned for the last week of this academic year. We would also like to encourage pupils to continue to practise their reading and make use of the interesting and varied resources available on ‘Hwb’ and ‘Purple Mash’.
Enjoy the Summer holiday and we look forward to seeing you all in September.
You really are a wonderful bunch and we have loved teaching you, even when it has been in the virtual sense!
Big air hugs and air high fives to you all,
Mrs Mullett, Miss Rainford & Mrs Good
Hello Class 2 stars!!
So this week some of you may be coming back to school, it will be lovely to see some of your faces!! Mrs Good and myself will be there to greet you with a smile and we can't wait to see you!
This week we'll be reading Pinocchio!! (The e-book would not upload this week so there is a PowerPoint version). We'll be re-telling the story like we did with Rama and Sita and The Tortoise and the Hare. We will also be making a wish upon a star just like Pinocchio!
We have some emoji codebreakers to crack for Numeracy as well as a Chilli Challenge to create your own codes!! We will also be looking at partitioning numbers. Remember last week Mrs Mullett had to split the two digit number (or the posh word - partition), so we'll be looking at that a bit more this week as well.
There are some great challenges to create your own mini raft!! Pinocchio and his father had to make a raft to escape the whales tummy and you'll be doing the same but you'll be making a raft strong enough to hold an egg. I want to see pictures and videos of you trying it out!!
Create your own puppet whether it's shadow puppet, fabric hand puppet, a puppet with strings or a stick puppet.
I would like you to do some research on where blue whales live. Where in the world do they live??
Mums and Dads, everything that is highlighted in pink on the weekly overview are things that we will do with the children who are coming into school! So no one is doing anything different we are all a team and all completing the same work together this week.
Miss Rainford, Mrs Mullett and Mrs Good xxx
Hello Kings and Queens!!
This week we will be learning about CASTLES. Many fairy tales contain a castle, for example, Jack & the Beanstalk, The Princess & the Pea, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Cinderella. Our very own Castell Coch looks much like a fairy tale castle! This castle was made for Lord Bute and took 16 years to build! It was completed in the year 1891. It is now 2020... I wonder who can tell me how many years ago it was built?
We are going to be learning about Medieval castles. These were built many many centuries before Castell Coch. Castles were homes of very important people, such as Lords and Kings. They ranged from wooden to stone buildings. Many Medieval castles were so magnificant and well-built, that the ruins can still be seen today. In fact, we have many castles in Wales. Have you been to any?
They were designed to protect the very important resident from attackers - that's why they were often built on high ground and surrounded by water (it would be very difficult for an attacking soldier to swim whilst wearing all that armour). There are many other features of castles which helped to both protect the people of the castle and also enabled them to attack enemies. Read the PowerPoint and watch the virtual tour to find out a bit more about this.
This week's tasks in all areas are linked to the topic of castles. You are going to be drawing or making your very own castle! I cannot wait to see what you create! You will also be making a working catapult (a weapon that was used when attacking castles). You will be listening to some twisted fairy tales and writing a letter to the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk. In Maths, you will be bridging over a tens number when solving addition problems and looking at castle brick arrays.
Good luck for this week and enjoy!
We absolutely cannot wait to see many of you next week and we will continue to keep in touch with you all via the website, j2e and emails.

Hi Class 2!
Yes it was so so lovely to see you all on Zoom! Thank you Mum's and Dad's for setting everything up and staying with the children! It was a huge success!
You'll get to see our faces even more this week as we have a few videos to share to help with this week's work!
Mrs Good has been fantastic and has been helping us plan work for this week. She has made a video explaining some of this week's Literacy work too!
I know some of you have been having trouble opening the ebooks that have been uploaded so this week I will upload the ebook but have also read this week's story - The Elves and the Shoemaker!
As always, any problems please let us know and keep sending in work and emailing as we so love hearing from you!
Miss Rainford, Mrs Mullett and Mrs Good xxx
It was so wonderful to see all of your lovely faces on Zoom yesterday and we have really relished the opportunity to speak to you on the phone too. Lots of you told us all about your magical potions and many of you have shown us your concoctions and your recipes. Amazing!
Jude decided to follow some instructions to make a sleeping potion... it worked! Haha :)
BIBBETY BOBBETY BOO - WE MISS YOU!
The theme for this week is magic potions!
The question is, if you could make a magical concoction, what would it do? I think I would make one to give me wings so I could fly like a bird.
So have fun creating your own potions and writing spells - you could even make some outdoors, using fallen petals and leaves. Be careful though - we don't want anyone accidentally turning their parents into frogs!! The forecast for this week is mostly rain, so perhaps you could make a spell for sunshine?
Thank you for the responses we have already had but if you haven't done them yet, please complete the 'My Experiences' activity sheet, available under 'Health & Wellbeing'.
We look forward to having chats with you on the phone soon.
Mrs Mullett, Miss Rainford & Mrs Good
Hello Class 2 monkeys
I hope you've had a lovely half term! What have you been doing? We've been very, very lucky with the weather haven't we? I bet there have been BBQ's galore with your families!
Miss Rainford has really been enjoying the sun and have been doing lots of reading in the garden. GiGi is allowed out in the garden now so I've been watching her trying to catch bees and flies. She took an accidental dip in the neighbour's pool the other day, she didn't realise that the pool cover was not solid - it was very funny. I don't think she'll be doing that again!!
Mrs Mullett has been very bus painting a mud kitchen which Mr Mullett built for Jude. He absolutely loves it!
Mrs Good has been doing lots of gardening in the sunshine and painting rooms in her house.
Miss Anthony has had lots of adventures on big walks with her boys and their dog!
Let us know what you've been doing, we love hearing from you and seeing the fantastic work you've been doing.
We're so so proud of you and miss you all very much.
Take care and stay safe,
Miss Rainford and Mrs Mullett xx
Summer Term - Week 5
Hello little pudding pies!
This week is the last week before Half Term - can you believe it? You have all been working extremely hard, da iawn. Not to mention, how hard have your parents been working? Top teachers! Don't forget to give your new teachers some well deserved rest over Half Term... :)
How have you all been doing and what have you been up to? Feel free to let us know via email/j2e/PurpleMash. Mr and Mrs Mullett have been oh so busy building and painting a muddy kitchen for little Jude. I cannot wait for him to be able to play in it. I will post a picture when it is finished! I have also been keeping in touch with family and friends by playing lots of quizzes on Zoom. I am still yet to win one -seems teachers don't know everything after all! Have you been doing any virtual quizzes?
This week we will be looking at the story of Rapunzel. I thought this would be very appropriate for most of us since we have been unable to go to the hairdressers!
Please look at the activities and do whatever is possible for you and your family. There are also some extras included for those of you who have some extra time over half term. These resources and videos are all available on j2e. Please check 'Shared Files' and 'Homework'. There are no activities on Purple Mash this week.
Please, please, please keep sending us your work. I cannot describe how excited I get, checking my inbox/j2e/Purple Mash account and seeing new work posted by you clever clogs. It's also amazing to see your videos, pictures and to hear your comments about your work. Remember, if you need any help, we are always here and happy to help - it's what us teachers do best (unlike quizzes)!
That being said, if you are having any difficulties accessing/uploading work then do not panic. You do not have to send us the work, we just like seeing it and know that you are all doing the activities at home and lots of other lovely family activities which will contribute to their learning. If you would like some support uploading work, feel free to email and we will do our best to assist :)
Mrs Mullett, Miss Rainford and Mrs Good
Hello Class 2 Parents and Pupils!
As another week goes by, we are missing you terribly and wishing we will all be together in school soon. However, we were both overjoyed to see your wonderful video and all of your beautiful smiling faces. Thank you so much!
We have also been so pleased with all of your photos / videos and work that you have shared with us. I hope you have all managed to read your feedback too. Please do not worry if you cannot complete all work set - do whatever is manageable for you and your family. You are able to share any work via email/ uploading to j2e/ completing 2dos on Purple Mash.
This week we will be continuing to focus on the BIG BAD WOLF and the story of Little Red Riding Hood. You will be using WOW words to write a description of the deep, dark woods and painting a picture to match it. You can also take photos on a walk/ items in your house and try editing them to make them spooky. We have also set you the challenge of recording spooky sounds...perhaps a door creaking or loud footsteps. In Maths you will be following directions and hunting for right angles. These skills will then feed into some map work and coding on Purple Mash. On top of all that, we have uploaded another gymnastic video for you to do and suggested that you could prepare a picnic for you and your family.
Every document below is available on 'j2e' under 'Shared Files' - 'Class 2' and then in Week 3 for each area of learning. Video 1 that accompanies the directions PowerPoint is too large to upload on this website but is available on j2e in the Mathematics shared files.
So, have fun and enjoy these activities and remember we are available via email if you need us.
Mrs Mullett + Miss Rainford
I hope that you have had a good week in the sunshine and have had fun undertaking some of your learning activities!
Each class web page will be updated on a Friday, however the fortnight beginning Friday 3rd April – Sunday April 19th will be the pupils’ official Easter Holiday and therefore work will not be posted for that fortnight.
Work will be posted for the next half term before Monday 20th April.
The Additional Information Section (under the “Class Pages” section) is being updated regularly with a selection of ideas and useful apps and websites. Please take time to visit this area and use some of the activities with your children. There are also useful websites for pupils to be able to hear Welsh and undertake activities through the medium of Welsh.
Have a sunny Easter Holiday and enjoy time with your family.
Don’t forget to help your parents/carers, children! Look after each other.
Miss Rainford and Mrs Mullett
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Every week we shall be uploading weekly learning activities on this class page. The activities highlighted in yellow are to be done DAILY. The activities highlighted in green are to be completed WEEKLY.
Your child should have received their log in details for both the Hwb and Purple Mash. These are fantastic learning resources for your children with numerous games and learning tools. If you have not received these log in details or have misplaced them - do not panic but get in touch with he school via email from Monday. We have set some learning on Purple Mash - if your child logs in to their account they should click on 'alert' and this will direct them top their set task. We will set new learning on here each week.
We have also uploaded some past papers from the national tests. We believe that these are a fantastic resource and encourage you to complete them with your child and to then focus on any areas that your child needs more support with.
We would also like to direct you towards the 'Additional Information' icon on the school website. Here are links to useful websites to aid your child's home learning.
Thank you for your continued support, now and always.
Mrs Mullett and Miss Rainford
Welcome to Class 2!!

Indoor P.E - Thursday morning after break-time. Children will need daps (but can be barefoot), t-shirts and shorts/trousers/leggings.
Reading folders and any homework will go home in the reading folders every Friday and are to be returned to school as soon as possible - Wednesday the latest if you please.
I - Miss Rainford - will be in class with the children Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday all day and then Thursday and Friday morning where I have Planning Time and NQT time.
Mrs Zoe Welsh will be teaching Thursday and Friday afternoons looking at Health and Wellbeing and Expressive Arts and Humanities on alternate weeks.
Mondays and Tuesdays our teaching assistant is Mrs Tracey Cozens.
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays our teaching assistant is Mrs Julie Good.
Hello everyone and welcome to Class 2's page!
I am Mrs Mullett and I am the class teacher and I will be working hard with your children to help them achieve their best this year! They will also work with Miss Ryall on Mondays and Tuesdays and Mrs Good Wednesday - Friday. On a Wednesday morning, Mrs Griffiths will be teaching the class.
Here are some key points and dates to remember for this term:
* Reading and spelling days - Your child will be allocated their own reading and spelling day, which shall be written in their reading record. Please ensure their books are on this particular day every week, otherwise I will not be able to hear them read or change their books. If your child is unwell or we have an INSET day and we are unable to listen to them read, please bring their books on the next school day.
*PE days: Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure that pupils have correct PE kit, including socks for girls (as they may be wearing tights on a PE day) and that long hair is tied back and no jewellery is worn.
*Class assembly - this is on Friday 19th October at 9:15am. You are very welcome to come and join us!
*Names - please ensure your child's clothing and belongings are clearly named to avoid them ending up in 'lost property' or sent home with the wrong child.
Many thanks for your continued cooperation,
