Hello and welcome to Class 5.
I hope you have all had a wonderful Summer holiday and you are all looking forward to the new school year. This year is all about building on the knowledge you have gained from Class 4 and become more independent with your learning.
This term we will be looking at Space and everything relating to our solar system and beyond. Unfortunately we can not visit Space or have a ride in a rocket but we will be going on an exciting trip that will allow you to feel that you are in Space.
Things for you to remember:
- Reading books are to be brought in everyday and parents need to sign to say you have been reading at home - even if it is on your own!
- Homework will be given on Wednesday and it does not have to be until Tuesday. You will usually have spelling homework every week. Every two to three weeks you will have numeracy homework or topic research.
- Indoor PE is on a Monday and you will need to ensure you have shorts and a t-shirt in school. Games is on a Thursday and you will need to have shorts, t-shirts, trainers and joggers( for when the weather gets colder).
- You can bring pencil cases to school but they must be small and fit easily into trays provided.
I hope you are all ready to start this new year. There are lots of fun activities planned for those who work hard and try their best.
Thank you for your continued support parents. Any problems please do not hesitate to come and see me.
Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! Happy New Year!
I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and you have enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Our new topic this term is Comparing Wales to Lesotho. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to research interesting facts about Lesotho both individually and in groups. Spelling tests will now take place on a Wednesday morning. All homework will be sent home on a Wednesday and it will need to be back in school by no later than Tuesday. Please ensure that you not only learn your spellings but you use them in creative and interesting sentences. All multiplication tables will be a focus this term and weekly times table tests will take place on a Tuesday. The focus in Numeracy this half term will be telling the time and reading timetables and solving money related problems.
I would like to say a big thank you to all the children in Class 5 who made this morning's Class assembly a huge success. I am so very proud of each and everyone of you. I also want to thank all the parents and grandparents for your continued support with this assembly and your children's learning so far this term. I wish you all a relaxing and happy half term. There is only one piece of homework this half term, which is to finish the Eco Warrior project.
Thank you once again,
Happy New Year to you all. I wish you a healthy and happy new year.

Please bring your reading book in everyday and make sure you are noting down when you are reading and what you are reading.
Multi-sport Cardiff games competition
On the 11th December Warren and I went to a Cardiff games muti-sport competition.
We took part in a number of sports including boccia, jumping, table tennis, cricket and football.
It was really fun and we both won medals.

We have been completing a unit of work on Digital Literacy during our I.C.T sessions, exploring safe passwords and being a good digital citizen. I have placed a few useful links if you would like to discuss it further at home.
