Reception: Mrs Owens
Welcome to Reception's class page!
We've had an excellent first 2 weeks in Reception class; it has been wonderful getting to know each and every child and supporting them with adapting to their new class and new school day.
Our class inquiry this term is 'Changes - Does everything change?'. We will discuss the changes that happen in the world around us, including changes that can happen because of decisions that we make. We will observe, experiment, research and find answers to our questions.
We will soon be starting phonics sessions using the Twinkl phonics scheme, which follows the same structure as the previous Letters and Sounds document. We will initially work on sound recognition, followed closely by blending/segmenting and recognising tricky words.
Please note: your child will bring home their first school reading book after October half term. Book bags can be purchased through parent pay, if you wish.
Mathematics and Numeracy work will include practical number work - recognising numerals, creating sets, understanding what a number is worth, reciting sequences of numbers and so forth. We will look at and create repeating patterns, learn about 2D shapes and learn how to exchange coins for items. As a class, we will collect, record and analyse data.
PE: Our outdoor PE session is scheduled for a Monday afternoon and our indoor hall session will be on a Friday afternoon.
On these days, we ask you kindly that the pupils attend school in their blue polo shirt, school hoodie/jumper/cardigan, shorts/joggers/leggings and trainers please. We kindly ask that you support your child in becoming independent with putting on their own socks and shoes, as this will be required during hall sessions.
Please see the attached Termly Overview, detailing skills and knowledge we intend to cover this half term. Also attached, is a homework grid detailing some activities that you can complete (if you wish) at home with your child/children. Please do not send homework tasks until after October half term.
We are really looking forward to a happy half term with your children!

Welcome to Reception!
This is our class page where you can find the overview of activities to be covered each half term. Alongside this, Reception's homework grid will be uploaded here each term, with fun ideas/tasks to complete at home to enhance and support our learning in school.
For your information:
- Our indoor PE day will be Friday, and our outdoor PE day will be Tuesday.
- Children are required to bring a drink of water or weak juice, with a piece of fruit for snack time each day.
- As we enjoy playing outside in all weathers, it may be useful to pop a change of clothes in your child's bag, incase we get a bit wet!
- Please ensure that your child brings a coat to school, as we will still play outside in the rain.
